Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) is one of two major “energy therapies”. They are based on a combination of Chinese Traditional Medicine acupuncture points and Kinesiology. One is Thought Field Therapy and the other is EFT.

EFT is safe, gentle and natural because you are tapping with your fingertips on the meridian points activated by Chinese Traditional Medicine practitioners when they use acupuncture. We use the fingertips only to gently balance the disturbance in the flow of the meridian system. If there is a disturbance or blockage in the meridian system it is usually caused by a build-up of stress hormones in turn caused by emotional stress. The upset is resolved, the meridian system returns to its normal balance and the emotional disturbance also disappears.

EFT can apply to Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), anger, guilt, anxiety, phobias depression and many cases of physical pain. I use it together with thinking skills training so that hopefully the person won’t disturb themselves again with unnecessary and negative thinking.

EFT brings about a sense of relaxation, a minimizing of negative emotions and their emotional release, a weakening of the unhelpful negative beliefs and a release into the body of endorphins, or “feel good” hormones.

EFT works rapidly and is most effective and safe. It is not necessary to even believe that it will work because it is working at a physical or a physiological level. It is a tremendous self-help tool which is easily learned and can be used for young and old without any side effects.

There has been a lot of research done on the energy therapies with impressive results, and they have been used in places where people have been traumatized, such as Rwanda, Yugoslavia, New Orleans (hurricane) and with USA Iraq Veterans. Results have been impressive in those places as well.
